THE STARTING POINT

For owners starting overseas sales: use Lokalise’s editable translation suggestions as a starting point for separating fluent product copy from accurate buying conditions, with a worked approach to review scope and post-publication questions.

Translated copy can still be unready for customers

A&A perspective

An owner may have AI-translated every product page yet still be unable to approve publication. The English sounds plausible, but external review adds cost and delay. Treating every sentence as equally important makes that decision harder. This article addresses business owners with established domestic product information who are preparing their first overseas sales. Ask not only whether the translation reads well but what the buyer will believe has been promised. Material descriptions and delivery conditions can create very different losses when misunderstood. Review by purpose so scarce specialist attention goes where purchasing decisions, returns and remedial service are affected. The practical choice need not be automatic publication of everything or complete retranslation of everything.

The reviewer’s role in the published Lokalise workflow

From the sources

Anthropic’s Lokalise account describes translation selection informed by language pair and content, with translators able to accept, edit or reject suggestions. This vendor-hosted account does not establish accuracy for your product descriptions.

Anthropic

A&A perspective

Our interpretation separates producing a translation from selecting something fit for publication. Fluent wording cannot turn an ambiguous original into precise product terms. An internal phrase such as “usually dispatched quickly” can leave the buyer’s question unanswered in any language. Give the reviewer more than source and target text: include market, page location, surrounding headings and product conditions that must retain their meaning. This is our proposed application, not a claim about how Lokalise checks a particular seller’s product pages. The reviewer needs a commercial reference point, not just a stylistic preference.

Hypothetical product: translating made-to-order dispatch terms

Hypothetical example

Imagine a fictional furniture seller exporting made-to-order chairs. Its source page says “dispatch in approximately four weeks.” A translation that says “delivered in four weeks” removes transit time and changes the promise. First the product owner resolves whether the interval covers production or dispatch and what starts the clock. Then the translator checks that this meaning survives. Review the materials paragraph for natural expression, but compare dispatch terms for semantic accuracy. If the same condition appears near the purchase button and on a shipping page, track both through the same change record. Preserve the approved wording and where it applies so repeated generation does not reintroduce variation. This invented example illustrates review design, not actual shipping terms or legal obligations.

Define review scope and reopen it when the source changes

From the sources

Anthropic recommends adding complexity only when needed.

A&A perspective

We apply that general principle by assigning review methods to uses. Compare purchase conditions, dimensions and compatibility against confirmed source values. Allow more expressive freedom in an introduction while retaining its meaning. Record the reason for a correction: missing source information, omitted condition, inconsistent term or stylistic change. Each points to a different person or remedy; regenerating the translation will not fix an incomplete source. When a dimension or lead time changes, reopen the affected translation rather than inheriting approval from an older version. The supporting source supplies only a general design principle, not independent evidence of translation accuracy or sales impact.

Translation cost is only one part of the sales equation

A&A perspective

Lower review cost does not by itself make overseas sales profitable. Classify questions after page visits by shipping cost, lead time, size and use. The remedy differs if wording is wrong versus the underlying product information being incomplete. Faster publication creates value only if there was a sales opportunity and orders followed; evaluate that separately. Keep translation spending, review spending, support work and return or reshipment costs distinct from contribution on additional orders. Comparing language versions only by order volume confounds market size and traffic. Tracking which condition buyers misunderstood is more useful for improving the original information and the review rules that follow from it.

Complete one page around the buyer’s decision

A&A perspective

The first deliverable is a page with the conditions needed to make a purchase decision, rather than a large count of translated pages. Assign ownership separately for product facts and target-language meaning. If nobody can review the latter, do not treat AI self-scoring as completed verification of important conditions; a narrowly scoped external review remains an option. An A&A discussion can start with anonymized copy and actual pre-purchase questions, connecting terminology, source maintenance and review handoffs. Before mass translation, make clear which misunderstanding would matter for this product. That reference point can then guide reviewers across new products and languages.

Design translation review around the buyer’s decision. Confirm the source conditions, assign checks by purpose, and feed changes and customer questions back into the next revision.
